Advanced Dental Crowns

Drs. Stephen S. Garner and Thor G. Thorson offer strong, beautiful dental crowns at our Yuma, AZ, practice to restore the structure and aesthetics of compromised teeth. We also provide crowns to restore dental implants if a patient needs to replace a single lost tooth. We can often provide crowns in just one appointment using advanced in-house technology. That means you can arrive with a broken or decayed tooth, and leave our office with a beautifully restored smile.

CEREC technology uses computer-guided tools to create restorations in a fraction of the time otherwise required.

Same-day Dental Crowns

At Gila Ridge Dental, we use Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) technology. This system allows us to design and create your custom dental crown in a single appointment. Traditional crowns are made in a dental laboratory and can take two weeks or longer to create. But thanks to CEREC, we can capture a digital impression of your prepped tooth that will guide computerized tools in creating a custom crown from a single block of porcelain chosen to match your teeth. The process is fast and provides excellent results. In some cases, patients may require a custom shade of porcelain. In this case, we work closely with a local dental laboratory that can hand-craft your crown to our specifications.

Candidacy

Gila Ridge Dental believes in delivering conservative treatment. We will carefully examine the tooth and gums to determine the type of restoration that is needed. In some cases, we can repair your tooth with a filling or an inlay or onlay, which preserves more of your healthy tooth structure. However, if the damage is extensive, a crown is usually the best solution. For example, since a root canal procedure requires the removal of a large amount of tissue, a crown is usually the best way to restore the tooth.

We use the latest materials and technology to restore your teeth with natural-looking crowns in as little as one office visit.

Placing Your Crown

First, any decayed or damaged portions of the tooth are removed. Next, we reshape the tooth to accommodate the dental crown. Once the tooth is prepped, we take digital impressions. You can wait comfortably in our office while CEREC creates your crown. When it is complete, we will try it in to make sure it fits properly and comfortably. After making any necessary adjustments, the crown will be cemented to the tooth.

If a crown from a dental lab is required, we will prep your tooth and take impressions before placing a temporary crown. When we receive your permanent crown, you will return for a second appointment in which we will replace the temporary.

Advantages of Porcelain Crowns

Unlike crowns of the past, today's porcelain crowns are durable and provide a natural-looking appearance. Thanks to advancements in dental technology, you can expect that your crown will fit comfortably, contribute to proper balance in your bite, and look indistinguishable from surrounding teeth.
