Veneers are cosmetic dental solutions that allow the patient to sport a beautiful smile. They are thin, wafer-like restorations made from porcelain and are bonded to the surface of a tooth. This way, dentists use them to cover minor cracks, chipping, wear and discoloration of the teeth.
The best aspect of veneers is that they not only offer a cosmetic solution, but also strengthen the teeth and improve their functionality. At Gila Ridge Dental, we have well-experienced dentists such as Drs. Thor G. Thorson, Stephen S. Garner, and Jason R. Boeskin who have treated hundreds of patients with cosmetic dental issues. Together, with our team, we promise to offer the best quality dental care to all our patients.
Are you a good candidate for veneers?
Patients with the following conditions would be benefited by veneers:
- Teeth with minor cracks due to external trauma.
- Teeth that are badly discolored.
- Misshapen or chipped teeth.
- Excessively spaced or worn out teeth.
Why should you choose veneers?
- Veneers are made from porcelain that is tooth colored. This makes them difficult to notice.
- They are absolutely metal-free.
- They strengthen the structure of the tooth and help to retain its natural tissues.
- They are highly durable, long-lasting and can be finished in a single visit to our practice.
During the initial screening of the mouth, the dentist determines the severity of the condition. The dentist then decides whether or not a veneer would be necessary to treat the condition and if any other simpler treatment method would suffice. Also, any old restorations to the tooth would be removed and cleaned thoroughly.
Scans and x-rays of the tooth will be taken to determine the size and contour of the veneer. In the case of conventional veneers, a highly accurate mold would also be taken and sent to a dental laboratory for fabricating it. But with CEREC technology, veneers can now be obtained in just a few minutes. The machine uses CAD/CAM technology to mill out the veneer from a piece or porcelain with high precision.
Once the veneer is fabricated, it will be placed in position and checked for fit and comfort before being permanently bonded to the tooth using dental adhesives. If any changes are required, the dentist makes them before bonding it. Finally, it will be polished to match the shade and color of the adjoining teeth.
