Is It Safe To Get Dental Treatment During the COVID-19 Pandemic? (Part 2)
The year 2020 was a difficult and trying year. It will be a year that will be remembered by all who endured it. As most people stayed home and searched online for information, the phrase, “Is it safe to get dental treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic?” was one of the most searched phrases on Google. And reasonably so. When considering where and how to go out and about in public it is important to think about where you are going. What kind of risks will there be to your health in different environments?
When you think about the dental office you may think about saliva and the sounds of the dental handpiece humming, and this may cause you to rethink your dental visit. At Gila Ridge Dental we do recommend that if you have major health conditions or are in a high-risk population group to please stay home. This is recommended in general and recommended by us if your oral health is good. But if you are having pain or swelling you definitely should schedule an appointment. We love seeing our patients every four to six months. But if we see you regularly and you have been given a clean bill of oral health, you are older or have other health conditions, please stay home. If you are generally healthy and are at lower risk it is safe and recommended for you to continue your oral health care with us.
As mentioned above if you are having pain or swelling in your face or mouth please do not hesitate to call us and set up an appointment. We want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to decrease the risk of COVID-19 in our office.
When you arrive you will be greeted by a sign that asks you to stay in your car and to call our number. When you call and are greeted by our friendly front office staff they will have a few questions for you. This is our way to screen all patients that enter our facility. They will ask:
-If you have recently tested positive for COVID-19
If YES, we will reschedule you 20 days from the onset of symptoms.
-Have you been around anyone with active Covid in the last 14 days?
If YES, we will reschedule you at least 14 days out from that date.
-Do you have any of the following symptoms: fever, sore throat, shortness of breath, headache, cough, and/or loss of smell/taste?
If YES, we will reschedule you 20 days out.
-Do you have a mask to wear inside?
If NO, we will give you one.
As you enter our office your temperature will be taken and you will promptly be escorted to the operatory. We do this to minimize contact with other patients in the waiting room. We also try to get everyone out without waiting before you leave. You may see many changes in our office but please rest assured that we are doing our best to keep you and your family safe. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
